Port city set to celebrate Victory Day tomorrow

CHITTAGONG, Dec 15, 2017 (BSS) – The port city is set to celebrate tomorrow the glorious 46th anniversary of the Victory Day in a befitting manner.

The people of Chittagong will pay homage to the martyred with a pledge to build a non communal, militant free, democratic Bangladesh and complete the trial of the rest war criminals.

In addition to government programmes, different political parties their front organisations, socio-cultural and professional bodies, educational institutions and trade unions have chalked out elaborate programmes including holding rallies, discussions, cultural functions and Milad Mahfils to mark the day and pay homage to those glorious persons for their supreme sacrifices during the Liberation War in 1971.

The day’s programme will be heralded by 31-gun fires from the Court Hill at 12.01 am and will be followed by wailing of whistles simultaneously from the rail and vessel engines.

The other programmes include placing wreaths at Shaheed Minar at one minute past 12 at zero hours, hoisting of the national flag atop all buildings at dawn, discussion meetings, bringing out processions, cultural functions, March pasts and reception to the freedom fighters.

District administration has chalked out a detailed programme to celebrate the day which include placing wreaths at Shaheed Minar, hoisting national flag atop all government, autonomous, and semi government offices, arranging of discussion, Doa Mahfil and special prayers at Mosques, Temples, Churches and other places of worships seeking peace, progress of the country, screening Liberation War-based films, reception to family members of the martyrs and injured freedom fighters, cultural function, and illuminations of important buildings, roads and road islands.

To mark the day, the main March past and physical display will be held at M A Aziz Stadium with the participation of police, Anser, VDP personnel and also from Fire Service and Civil Defense, BNCC, Girls Guide, Rover Scouts and children and juveniles from different educational institutions.

Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) has also taken up similar programmes including placing wreath at Shaheed Minar, arranging march-past at Bakalia city corporation stadium with the participation of the thousand students of its different educational institutions.

City Mayor A Z M Nasir Uddin will inspect the march past and take the salute. The main attraction of the victory day is bringing out of the traditional huge victory processions of Muktijudder Bijoy Mela Parishad postponed today as its chaiman ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhry’s death.

The district administration victory procession will start from the victory flame at M A Aziz stadium will parade different important streets including Kazir Deweri, Surson road, Jamal Khan, Andarkillah, Laldigi Par, Kotwali, New Market and Enayet Bazar crossing and will culminate at Bijoy mela premises.

Chittagong city, north and south district units of Awami League (AL) and its different front organisations will organise daylong programmes in observance of the glorious Victory Day.

Improved diets will also be served to inmates of hospitals, jails, shishu sadan, vagabond centres, orphanages and shelter homes for the elderly people.

Authorities of different educational institutions including Chittagong University, Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology and Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU), University of Science and Technology Chittagong (USTC), Chittagong Pres Club and Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ) will also celebrate the Victory Day through elaborate programmes.
