DHAKA, Dec 15, 2017 (BSS) – Asking physicians to render dedicated healthcare services to patients, President M Abdul Hamid today stressed taking public-private initiatives to reach healthcare at the doorsteps of common people.

“The public-private initiative is important to widen modern as well as world-class treatment and to reach the healthcare facilities at people’s doorsteps,” the President told the opening session of the 6th International Conference on Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery & 4th Dhaka Live 2017 at a city hotel this evening.

He underscored taking combined initiatives involving doctors, policymakers, health workers, media and other concerned aiming to create mass awareness about preventing heart disease.

Noting that research and innovation can help reduce the risk of health hazards, President Hamid said cardiac disease is a serious concern for policymakers as a good number of rural people who succumb to this deadly disease, mostly remain undiagnosed.

He said the government has set up cardiology department equipped with both cardiac surgery and cardiology facilities, including Cardiac OT, in all public medical college hospitals and district level public hospitals to provide adequate and effective treatment facilities to the patients suffering from cardio-vascular disease.

“But, common masses cannot get the benefits of the modern medical sciences as the treatment of cardiovascular disease is highly expensive…and most people of the South Asian countries have no ability to spend such a huge amount of money for treatment”, the President said.

“Therefore, we’ve to give focus on the universal maxim – Prevention is better than cure.”

At the outset of the speech, President Hamid extended his warm congratulations to the countrymen living home and abroad on the occasion of the Victory Day.

He paid profound respect to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his contribution to attaining a sovereign country and rich tributes to the millions of martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence.
