Development fair encourages youths to be entrepreneurs

DHAKA, Oct 7, 2018 (BSS) – The three-day ‘Development Fair-2018’, which concluded on Saturday, encouraged many people, especially the young generation, to emerge as entrepreneurs through income generating activities as they acquired knowledge about the government’s development and promotional activities from the event.

“The fair concluded on Saturday drawing huge crowd in Dhaka, all upazila and district towns across the country by showcasing the government’s success stories in all sectors that would lead Bangladesh to materialize ‘Vision-2021’ and ‘Vision-2041’ through achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Md Nojibur Rahman told BSS here today.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the event through videoconferencing on October 4 from her official Ganabhaban residence.

The government arranged the 4th edition of the Development Fair at around 500 venues in 490 upazilas and 64 districts across the country for showcasing the government’s achievements in socioeconomic activities.

The theme of the fair was “Indomitable Bangladesh in Advancement of Development”.

Nojibur Rahman said the people, particularly youths, will become more active to take forward the country as they have gathered knowledge about the activities of different government and non-government organizations through the fair.

The government and non-government organisations, banks, insurance companies and other financial institutions showcased their success stories by opening stalls across the country, he added.

Deputy Commissioner of Gazipur Dr Dewan Muhammad Humayun Kabir said people spontaneously participated in the fair at the district town and all upazilas.

“All participating institutions have projected their respective development activities and successes of the last 10 years, future plans and ways of materializing the dream to make a poverty and hunger-free nation as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,” he added.

Deputy Commissioner of Feni district M Wahiduzzaman said the fair specially focused on the achievements in different sectors, including the Prime Minister’s ten initiatives, digitization, mega projects and socioeconomic development, in the last 10 years.

“The fair drew huge crowds in all six fair grounds of the district. People from all walks of life, including students of schools and colleges, visited the fair. They have gathered knowledge about the government’s services and development activities,” he added.

He said the fair also included seminars, rallies and cultural functions upholding the War of Liberation spirit, socio economic development and the impacts of drug abuse.

Deputy Inspector General of the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments Md Zakir Hossain said: “Through our fair, we informed nearly 400 people, including workers, factory owners and students, about the process of getting factory license, way of protecting labour rights and safety and security issues in the factory.”

The visitors were very pleased as they could know everything from a single booth and they wrote good comments in the comment book, he added.
