Teachers main force for building skilled human resource: Nahid

DHAKA, Oct 5, 2018 (BSS) – Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid today
urged the teachers to perform their duties with dedication and utmost
sincerity as they are main force to develop skilled manpower.

Teachers should groom up the young generation with quality education to
build an economically advanced country, he told a discussion in the
auditorium of Army Golf Club Garden here, an official release said.

Additional Secretary of the Technical and Madrasah Education Division AKM
Zakir Hossain Bhuiyan, Additional Secretary of Secondary and Higher Secondary
Education Division Nazmul Haque Khan and Chairman of Technical Education
Board Md Mostafizur Rahman, among others, addressed the discussion with
President of Bangladesh Technical Education Welfare Association Md Nazmul
Islam in the chair.

Nahid said, “Teaching is a noble profession…. We have given different
facilities, including increasing salary and other benefits, to ensure
dignified life of teachers in the society.”

He said the government has attached top priority to expansion of
technical and vocational education to ensure better access of students to job
markets.

He said the government has set a target of 30 percent enrolment in
technical education by 2030 aiming to transform Bangladesh into an
economically developed country.

In 2009, the percentage of students’ enrolment in the technical
education was one while the current enrolment rate is 14 percent, he added.

“We are promoting knowledge-based education to develop skilled human
resources to turn Bangladesh into a middle-income country. Education without
skills will create a burden for family as well as the nation,” he said.

“To maximize the benefit of using ICT in a classroom, we need a bunch of
trained, motivated and technology-friendly teachers who will make the whole
process effective and successful,” the minister added.
