2 killed in Ctg suspected militant den blast

CHATTOGRAM, Oct 5, 2018 (BSS) – Two suspected militants were killed in a
blast at a presumed Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) hideout in Mirsarai
upazila of the district today during Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)’s drive
there after being cordoned off the den on intelligence information.

“Two militants were killed in a huge blast at JMB hideout cordoned off by
RAB members at Shonapahar in Zorarzonj area under Mirsarai upazila of the
district this morning,” said Shafayat Jamil Fahim, commanding officer of Rab-
7 camp in Feni.

He said RAB primarily called off the operation after being recovered
scattered body parts of two suspects following the blast.

The identities of the two suspected militants could not be known
immediately, he added.

An AK 22 rifle, three pistols, raw materials for making grenades, five
live crud bombs and huge amount of explosives were recovered from the spot,
he said.

The RAB official also said a team of elite anti-crime force laid siege to
the presumed militant den on a secret information about the presence of JMB
members around 3 am last night and later conducted drive there.

At one stage, the militants opened fire and threw bombs at the elite
forces, prompting them to retaliate, he said.

“Later, a huge explosion was heard at around 4 am,” Fahim said, adding the
militants might have detonated a bomb inside the hideout.

RAB bomb disposal unit diffused the five crude bombs recovered from the
spot, other RAB officials later said.

Suspecting the deceased as operatives of banned outfit JMB, they said the
militants might have a plan to carry out a terrorist attack on the court
premises in Chattogram.

Earlier, RAB detained the owner of the house Mazharul Islam Chowdhury and
his caretaker Haque Sab.

The arrested persons informed the elite force that the suspected Militants
rented the house on 1st October last.
