Foreign investment in S.Korea posts double-digit growth in January-
September period

SEOUL, Oct. 5, 2018 (BSS/Xinhua) – Foreign direct investment (FDI) in
South Korea posted a double-digit growth for the first nine months of this
year, touching a new record high, a government report showed Thursday.

The FDI reported in the January-September period hit a new high of 19.2
billion U.S. dollars, up 41.4 percent from the same period of last year,
according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

If the current trend continues, the FDI for 2018 was expected to surpass
20 billion dollars for the fourth consecutive year.

The FDI by European Union (EU) investors surged 63.1 percent over the year
to 5.13 billion dollars in the January-September period, accounting for more
than one-fourth of the total FDI.

U.S. investors directly invested 4.09 billion dollars in South Korea in
the cited period, up 41.0 percent from a year earlier.

Direct investment by Chinese investors more than tripled to 2.39 billion
dollars for the first nine months of this year.
