Vegetable farmers earns huge profit in Manikganj
MANIKGANJ, Dec 14, 2017 (BSS)- The vegetable growers of the district earning huge profit this time due to good market price here.
They are optimistic about attaining a good yield of their produce during this current season on account of a congenial weather condition and timely supply of necessary agri-imputs.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said a total of 9,712 hectares of lands was brought under vegetable cultivation during this winter season with a production target of 20,2981 metric tonnes.
The sources said the land of Singair, Saturia and Manikganj sadar is suitable for vegetable cultivation including Broccoli, cabbage, radish, bean and carrot.
Farmers are generally growing the vegetable from the last week of November and it continues till December. Some farmers of the district cultivated vegetable earlier in their high lands and those were started to harvest and appearing in the markets.
A piece of fresh cabbage is being sold at Tk.25toTk. 30 in retail market while whole sale price is at Tk. 15 to Tk, 20. Like cabbage one piece of medium size broccoli is being sold at the same rate in the markets.
DAE has taken various steps including timely supply of necessary agri-inputs to the farmers to increase the production of vegetable.
