Rangpur City Corporation to have separate sanitation unit

RANGPUR, Oct 03, 2018 (BSS) – The authority of Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) at a planning formulation workshop has decided to set up a separate sanitation unit to ensure better sanitation and pure drinking water facilities to the urban poor.

The decision came at the workshop arranged today for the ‘Civil Society Coordination Committee (CSCC)’ members of RpCC at its conference room to formulate and adopt plan for setting up a separate sanitation unit.

The Water and sanitation for the Urban Poor (WSUP) project extended assistance to the RpCC authority in arranging the workshop. Members of the CSCC, councilors from all 33 general wards and nine reserved wards, officials of RpCC, representatives from the civil society and professional groups attended the event.

Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa attended workshop as the chief guest with Chief Executive Officer of RpCC Akhter Hossain Azad in the chair. Superintending Engineer of RpCC Amdad Hossain, its Secretary Abu Saleh Md Musa Jongi and a number of CSCC members, among others, addressed.

Akhter Azad narrated the goals and objectives of the workshop and role of the civil society members in ensuring smooth implementation of development works in the city.

Emdad Hossain elaborately discussed the progress and status of the massive ongoing development activities in the city.

Civil society member Partho Bose, City Councilors Sekendar Ali, Tauhidul Islam, Nazrul Islam Dewani, Jamal Uddin and Lebu Hossain, among others, took part in the open discussion session.

After elaborate discussion, the workshop decided to set up a separate sanitation unit of the city corporation.

Mayor Mostafa sought cooperation of CSCC members and officials and employees of RpCC in running development and other activities for ensuring smooth development to build a modern and beautiful Rangpur city with all civic amenities.
