Vocational training to youths underscored

GAIBANDHA, Oct 3, 2018 (BSS) – Speakers here yesterday underscored the
need for providing vocational training and technical jobs to the youths to
build unemployment free society.

They emphasized for creating working opportunities to the unskilled
educated youths through providing them need base vocational trainings on
different trades to push forward the nation towards desired development.

They expressed this view while addressing a roundtable discussion on
vocational education and job placement in light engineering sector at the
conference room of Gaibandha Technical Training Centre (GTTC) on Tuesday.

RDRS Bangladesh arranged the function with technical support of
Practical Action under the project of Securing Employment
and Economic Development around Jute Textile and Light Engineering Sector in
North-West Bangladesh funded by European Union.

President of Gaibandha Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) Shajada
Anwarul Quadir addressed the function as the chief guest and principal of
Gaibandha Govt. Technical School and College (GGTSC) Engineer M. Siddiqur
Rahman was present as the special guest.

With principal of GTTC Atiqur Rahman in the chair, the function was also
addressed by deputy director of department of youth development Tofael Ahmed
Khan, assistant general manager of Gaibandha BSCIC Nurul Islam, senior
instructor of GGTSC Jahidul Islam, manpower officer Nesarul Haque.

Earlier, regional manager of Practical Action Md. Nehal Azmat Mohee and
vocational education and job placement specialist of Practical Action Md.
Rafiquel Islam made a power point presentation on the project and its overall
activities in four northern districts Gaibandha, Rangpur, Lalmonirhat and
Kurigram from 2017.

Md. Rafiquel Islam said about 15 percent of employed people is involved
in technical jobs. Among them, only 1-2 percent acquired training from
technical training centers. This rate needs to be 50 percent to achieve the
sustainable development goals by 2030.

District coordinators of RDRS Bangladesh, Rangpur and Gaibandha Rakibul
Bahar and Arifur Rahman, as well as public representatives and journalists
took part in the discussion.
