Vietnam sees lower unemployment rate in 9 months

HANOI, Oct. 3, 2018 (BSS/Xinhua) – The unemployment rate among Vietnamese
people in working age in the first nine months of this year was 2.2 percent,
compared with 2.26 percent in the same period last year, according to
Vietnam’s General Statistics Office on Tuesday.

Specifically, the unemployment rates in urban areas and rural ones stood
at 3.1 percent and 1.74 percent, respectively, compared with 3.19 percent and
1.8 percent in the first nine months of 2017.

Between January and September, Vietnam’s youth unemployment, the
unemployment of young people defined by the United Nations as 15-24 years
old, was 7.15 percent. Specifically, the youth unemployment rate stood at
10.71 percent in urban areas and 5.81 percent in rural ones.

Meanwhile, the country’s underemployment rate was 1.46 percent, compared
with 1.67 percent in the first nine months of last year.

Between January and September, Vietnam had 54.1 million employees aged 15
or more, including 20.7 million people working in agriculture, forestry and
fishery, 14.4 million in industry and construction, and 19 million in
service. Their monthly income averaged 5.8 million Vietnamese dong (252 U.S.
dollars), up 381,000 Vietnamese dong (16.5 U.S. dollars) on-year, said the
office.

The country currently has a total population of nearly 94.7 million
people, including over 33.6 million city dwellers.
