BD Legal Aid App to work as digital door: Anisul
DHAKA, Oct 2, 2018 (BSS) – Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq today said providing legal assistance for free is an outstanding step taken by the government and the newly launched BD Legal Aid App will work as the digital door in getting the legal service.
“At present the number of mobile phone users in the country is around 13 crore. So people will be able to enjoy the government’s legal service easily by using the app. We have adopted different plans to take this trend of providing service to the maximum level,” the minister said.
Anisul came up with the observations while launching legal aid office management software and BD Legal Aid App at Judicial Administration Training Institute (JATI) in the capital.
The minister also destributed laptops and mobile phones among legal assistance providing officers working in different districts.
“People are getting different digital services from union digital information centers across the country. From today, they will get another service from the centers. Anyone from now on can seek legal advice through using the app. When the concerned legal aid office accept his plea, the justice seeker will get a confitmation message on his mobile phone right away. He will also get all the information about his case on his mobile phone,” the law minister further said.
Anisul Huq said the government also wants to launch Online Dispute Resolution system in future, adding, “so that any people can dispose of his dispute online through legal aid office.”
When asked about the autobiography of former chief justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, the law minister said, “He (Justice Sinha) spoke ill about country’s judiciary to get the political asylum in the US.”
Replying to a question on bringing Justice Sinha back to the country, Anisul Huq said, “As a case has been lodged against him, it is now the responsibility of the Anti-Corruption Commission to decide on the matter. They will look into the matter. If he needs to be brought back, it would be done through court.”
The minister also said the recommendations made by Editor’s Council regarding Digital Security Act will be placed at the cabinet meeting.
“I have said it clearly and I am saying it again today that I would place the recommendations for discussion at the cabinet meeting later if not on October 9,” Anisul added.
Presided over by Law and Justice Division Secretary Abu Saleh Sheikh Md Zahirul Haque, the function was also addressed by JATI Director General Justice Khandaker Musa Khaled, joint secretary of Law and Justice Division Bikash Kumar Saha and National Legal Aid Services Organization director Md. Zafrul Hasan.
Law Commission Chairman Justice ABM Khairul Haque and member Justice ATM Fazle Kabir were present on the occasion, among others.
