Nahid for promoting skill-based education

DHAKA, Oct 1, 2018 (BSS) – Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid today laid
emphasis on skill-based education to build an economically advanced
Bangladesh.

“We have attached top priority to expansion of technical and vocational
education to ensure better access of students to job markets,” he told a
function at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) here, an
official release said.

Director General of Directorate of Technical Education Ashok Kumar Biswas,
experts, educationists and representatives of different government and non-
government organisations, among others, addressed the function with Secretary
of Technical and Madrasa Education Division Md Alamgir in the chair.

Nahid said, “The Chinese government is giving scholarship to students at
technical education institutions. A total of 474 students have received
Chinese scholarship this year.”

He said the government has set a target of 30 percent enrolment in
technical education by 2030 aiming to transform Bangladesh into a prosperous
country.

“In 2009, there was only one percent student enrolment in the technical
education while the current enrolment is 14 percent,” he added.

“We are promoting knowledge-based education to develop skilled human
resources to turn Bangladesh into a middle-income country. Education without
skills will create a burden for family as well as the nation,” he said.
