National Productivity Day tomorrow

DHAKA, Oct 01, 2018 (BSS) – The National Productivity Day will be observed tomorrow in the country aiming to create mass awareness to raise productivity in all fields, including industrial, agriculture and service sectors.

The theme of the day this year is “Productivity Development for Happy and Prosperous Country.”

President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave separate messages on the eve of the day stressing the need for increasing productivity, economic stability and ensuring sustainable development and growth.

President M Abdul Hamid said, productivity is an essential part of national economy. It accelerates overall economic activities of a country and plays an important role to increase production, savings, investment and employment opportunities, he added.

A country will be happy and prosperous when its standard of life improves, citizens of the country will be well-educated, social security will be increased and the equitable socio-economic system will be ensured, he said.

“Bangladesh has now attained the status of a developing country. We are very close in implementing Vision-2021. The next step of the government is to implement Vision-2041 and become a developed country. At the same time, the government is committed to achieve Sustainable Development Goals declared by the United Nations by 2030. Increasing national productivity is a must to implement these long term action plans of the government,” he added.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her message said, “Recent performance in economic growth and changes in social indicators of Bangladesh have drawn the attention of the global economist, political and business community. It is very important to increase productivity in every sector for sustainable development.”

She said the Awami League government has been striving hard to turn Bangladesh into a middle income country by 2021 and developed-prosperous one by 2041. To achieve this goal, it is inevitable to improve productivity in all sectors, she said adding for this reason, awareness on productivity among the mass people is very essential.

The President and the Prime Minister hoped that observance of National Productivity Day will play a vital role to accelerate the trend of productivity for development of Bangladesh.

They wish the ‘National Productivity Day 2018’ a grand success.

To mark the programme the Ministry of Industries has chalked out elaborate programmes, including bringing out colourful rally, seminar and discussion.

Officials and employees of the different ministries and private organizations will take part in the rally from the Osmani Memorial Auditorium at 8 am tomorrow, said a press release.

A seminar will be held at the Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP) auditorium in the city at 4 pm where Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu and Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury are expected to be present.

Besides, Bangladesh Television will air a talk show and newspapers will publish supplements highlighting the significance of the day.

As part of the nationwide campaign, the mobile phone operators will send SMSs and voice mails on the day to create awareness among the people on the day.
