Mosharraf for better waste management for healthy environment

DHAKA, Oct 1, 2018 (BSS) – Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer
Mosharraf Hossain today said the government is working to prepare a well-
designed plan including better waste management to ensure healthy environment
in urban areas.

“Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) and the National Housing Authority
have incorporated waste management to make Dhaka city livable for all,” he
told a function at the Osmani Memorial Hall on the occasion of the World
Habitat Day.

Member of the Parliamentary Standing committee on the Housing and Public
Works Ministry Alhaj Md Dabirul Islam, Country Director of UNDP Sudipto
Mukerjee, Chief Engineer of Directorate of Public Works Md Rafiqul Islam,
Chief Architect of Department of Architect Kazi Golam Nasir, Chairman of
RAJUK Md Abdur Rahman and Chairman of the National Housing Authority Md
Rashidul Islam, among others, addressed the discussion with Housing and
Public Works Secretary Md Shahid Ullah Khandakar in the chair.

Mosharraf laid emphasis on creating mass awareness for stopping use of
polythene bags as well as other unhealthy practices to keep Dhaka city clean.

He described this year’s theme of the day “Municipal solid waste
management” as time-befitting.

The government has taken various initiatives for solid waste management
properly to avoid health hazards, the minister added.

Earlier, a rally led by Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer
Mosharraf Hossain was brought out which ended in front of the Jatiya Press
Club after parading different thoroughfares.
