SYLHET, Oct 1, 2018 (BSS) – Finance Minister AMA Muhith today said BNP has
to join the forthcoming general election for its existence and even they does
not come the polls it would be held in due course as scheduled.

“They must contest the polls for their own existence . . . even if BNP
doesn’t take part in the election the elections will be held as there are so
many political parties in the country,” he said while exchanging views with
government officials at the Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Office.

Muhith said the government has taken all sorts of preparation to conduct
the election in a free and fair manner while the voter list with pictures,
which was introduced in the face of Awami League’s demand in 2008, would also
ensure the credibility of the polls.

“The government is working relentlessly to ensure smooth supply of
electricity across the country, including in the Sylhet division,” the
Finance Minister said, adding that Bangladesh has achieved remarkable
successes in poverty alleviation since the government has taken various
programmes in this regard.

Parliament Member Mahmud Us Samad Chowdhury, former Bangladesh’s permanent
representative to the United Nations Dr AK Abdul Momen and General Secretary
of the Sylhet District Awami League Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury were present,
among others.
