All set to celebrate Victory Day in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Dec 13, 2017 (BSS) – The authorities concerned have completed necessary preparations to celebrate the Victory Day-2017 here on Saturday next through paying rich tributes to the martyred sons and daughters of the soil.

Officials in the district and police administrations said the law enforcement agencies have taken adequate security measures to ensure peaceful celebrations of the Victory Day in the city as well as in all upazila headquarters in the district.

The district administration, Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC), freedom fighters, Awami League (AL), its associate bodies, educational institutions, socio-cultural, professional and voluntary organisations have taken elaborate daylong programmes on the occasion.

The observance will begin with 31-gun salutes on Police Lines Ground, placing wreaths at the Independence Memorial ‘Arjan’ and hoisting of the national flag atop all government, semi-government and private buildings after sunrise on Saturday.

Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) for Rangpur range Khondker Golam Faruk, Acting President of District AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Wahiduzzaman, Police Super Mizanur and District Muktijoddha Commander Mosaddek Hossain Bablu, will first place wreaths at the Independence Memorial.

Later, leaders of different political parties and their associate bodies, educational institutions, socio-cultural, professional, business, human rights and other organisations, NGOs and common people will place wreaths there.

The programmes also include illumination and decoration of the main islands of roads, roadsides and various buildings with national flags and colored miniature posters and banners and Victory Day marathon.

The Divisional Commissioner will hoist the national flag and take salute at march-past and displays by the freedom fighters, police, Ansar-VDP, BNCC, fire service and civil defense personnel, students, children, jail guards, scouts, rover scouts and girl guides at Rangpur Stadium.

The District Information Office will screen documentary films on the War of Liberation and Victory Day.

Special prayers will be offered seeking divine peace for departed souls of martyred freedom fighters, intellectuals and general people and progress and welfare of the nation and its people at mosques, temples, churches, pagodas and other places of religious worship.

Freedom fighters and relatives of the martyred freedom fighters will be accorded receptions at Town hall auditorium and the main discussion will be held on the Central Shaheed Minar premises in the evening marking the Day.

Special prayers and munajats will be organised at all mosques, temples and other religious organizations and improved diets will be served to inmates of hospitals, orphanages, Government Shishu Paribars, jail, vagabond and children centres.

Drawing competitions for children on the War of Liberation, charity shooting competitions for males and females, special discussions and sports competitions for women, charity football match, sports and essay competitions for students, cultural functions and prize giving ceremony will also be arranged.
