Bangabandhu united Bangalees through 1970 election: Mosharraf

DHAKA, Sept 30, 2018 (BSS) – Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain today said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had taken initiatives to unite the Bangalee nation through the 1970 election.

“The election of 1970 was not only polls … Bangabandhu took initiatives to unite the Bangalee nation through this election and his plan had turned into reality through the victory. He (Bangabandhu) called for the independence after uniting the nation,” he said, speaking at the inaugural function before the screening of the documentary ‘Rahman the Father of Bengal’ at an auditorium of Shilpakala Academy here.

Eminent Japanese filmmaker Nagisha Oshima made the documentary on Bangabandhu in 1972. The Archive 71 organized the function to screen the film, said a press release.

National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, REHAB President Md Alamgir Shamsul Alamin and First Vice President Liakat Ali Bhuiyan and Journalist Pranab Shaha, among others, addressed the function with Nurunnabi Shaown, MP, in the chair.

Mosharraf said the killing of Bangabandhu was a big conspiracy. Those who didn’t accept the liberation of Bangladesh and didn’t believe in the Liberation War killed Bangabandhu, he added.

After his death, the perpetrators tried to confuse the nation by distorting the history of Bangladesh and Bangabandhu, he said, adding they also tried to distort the historical March 7 speech of Bangabandhu where he (Bangabandhu) gave all directives of the War of Liberation along with calling for independence.

Mosharraf said the speech was banned for 21 years. But, UNESCO recognized the historic March 7 speech by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as a world documentary heritage, he added.

Later, the film was screened. The film will also be screened at different places of Chattogram in next month.
