All-round India crush UAE in U-19 Asia Cup
DHAKA, Sept 30, 2018 (BSS)- Openers Devdutt Padikkal and Arjun Rawat
scored a magnificent hundred followed by Siddharth Desai’s six-wicket haul
saw India recoded second successive victory in the ACC U-19 Asia Cup crushing
the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 227 runs in their second group A encounter
held on Sunday at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP) ground in Savar.
The two Indian openers gave their team to a flying start contributing 205
runs for the opening stand after India skipper Pawan Shah opted to bat first
on the placid wicket.
Padikkal composed a magnificent 121 runs off 115-ball laced with 15
boundaries and two over boundaries while Rawat supported him with a superb
102-ball off 115-ball that studded with 10 boundaries and five over
boundaries.
Later, Pawan Shah (45) and Sameer Choudhary (42) made a quick fire helped
India to post a challenging total of 354 for 6 from their allotted 50 overs.
Alishan Sharafu and Aaron Benjamin were the pick of the UAE bowlers as the
duo shared two Indian wickets conceding 46 and 88 runs respectively.
Chasing a huge total, the UAE found the chase stiff and eventually
dismissed at a paltry total of 127 in 33.5 overs.
Ali Mirza top scored with 41 runs followed by Figy John (24) and Fahad
Nawaz (22) for the UAE.
Siddharth Desai, the wrecker-in-chief, caused the major damage as he
grabbed six UAE’s wicket conceding 24 runs in 8.5 overs.
In the day’s other match, a five-wicket haul by Shashika Dulshan helped
Sri Lanka to register their second consecutive victory in the tournament when
they earned an overwhelming 10-wicket win over Hong Kong in the group B
encounter held at MA Aziz Stadium in Chattogram.
Put to bat first by Sri Lanka, Hong Kong were cheaply dismissed at a
paltry total of 56 in 33.1 overs with Adit Gorawara (10) was the only Hong
Kong batsman able to reach the double figure.
Apart from Dulshan’s five-wicket for 19 runs, Dulith Wellalage and Kalana
Perera captured two wickets each conceding 5 and 11 runs respectively.
Chasing a small target of 57 runs set by Hong Kong, Sri Lanka easily
reached the target making 58 runs in 9.2 overs.
Nipun Dananjaya Perera (35) and Nishan Madushka (21) led Sri Lanka towards
the victory to remain unbeaten till the end of the innings.
