Sports practice vital for building developed Bangladesh: Nahid

RAJSHAHI, Sept 30, 2018 (BSS)- Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, MP, said there is no alternative to sports practice for building developed Bangladesh led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

He said the Bangladesh has now become capable of raising its head in the global arena as the girls have already shown outstanding performance in various sports events side by side with the boys.

The minister was addressing the inaugural session of the 47th Summer National Sports Competition- 2018 at Government Physical Education College in Rajshahi city as chief guest today.

Bangladesh National School, Madrasha and Technical Education Sports Association organized the five-day event in association with Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, Rajshahi.

A total of 528 students including 264 girls from 80 educational institutions across the country splitting into four groups are taking part in around 50 events and sub-events of the competition.

Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, addressed the opening session as special guests.

Nahid said sports, physical practice and cultural activities always play pivotal role towards physical and mental flourishing of students.

So, he said, it is important to boost sports and cultural activities in educational institutions.

“Sports and cultural activities can protect the students from drug addiction and militancy,” the minister added.

He said the present government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has attained epoch-making success in education, health, communication and power sectors. “We have to uphold the successes,” he asserted.
