Three ABT-JMB operatives held with arms, ammos

RANGPUR, Sept 30, 2018 (BSS) – Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 arrested a
top leader of Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) and two operatives of banned
militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahedeen Bangladesh (JMB) with huge arms,
ammunitions and ‘jihadi’ books from Lalmonirhat on Saturday night.

Commanding Officer of Rangpur RAB-13 Battalion Md Mozammel Haque disclosed
the information at a press briefing arranged at RAB-13 battalion headquarters
here this noon.

“A special operational team of Militancy Cell of RAB-13 conducted a raid at
Bhotmari village in Kaliganj upazila of Lalmonirhat and arrested a top ABT
leader with arms, ammunition and huge ‘jihadi’ books and leaflets from his
house there,” he said.

The arrested person is the Chief Coordinator and Dawa-e-Ameer of
Lalmonirhat district unit of ABT Md Mehedi Saddam Hossain alias Sabuz, 22,
son of Mostafizur Rahman of the same area.

“The elite force also seized a foreign pistol with a magazine and two live
bullets, a mobile phone set used for militant activities and huge quantity of
provocative ‘jihadi’ books and leaflets from his possession,” Haque said.

In two other raids, the elite force arrested two JMB operatives from
Rasulganj and Courttoli area in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat with a foreign
pistol, a magazine and one round bullet, two mobile phone sets and huge
provocative ‘jihadi’ books and leaflets.

The arrested JMB operatives are Ruhul Amin, 22, son of Zaminur Islam of
village Somserpur and Khokan, 21, son of Solaiman Ali of village Somserpur
Lalitarhat under Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat.

During primary interrogation, the arrested top ABT leader as well as two
JMB operatives admitted that they had been remaining in hideouts for the past
one-year period and conducting organisational activities.

“The arrested ABT and JMB militants had been engaged in inspiring innocent
young people to become members, enlisting new members, collecting fund and
purchasing arms and ammunitions with the collected money,” Haque added.

He said the arrested militants had plans to conduct subversive activities
at different places of greater Rangpur region and efforts were on to collect
information about other members of the outfit organisation to nab them.

After filing two separate cases under the Arms Act and Anti-terrorism Act
in these connections against the arrested ABT and JMB operatives, the elite
force handed them over to the respective police stations.
