DHAKA, Sept 28, 2018 (BSS) – Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel
Huq today said Right to Information (RTI) Act has ensured people’s
empowerment as well as the accountability of the government.

“The Right to Information Act, 2009, was enacted to ensure that the
people can get all the information what they want. If the authorities enforce
all the acts to control people, they can apply the RTI to ensure government’s
accountability,” he said.

The minister came up with the observations while addressing a press
briefing organised by Information Commission marking the International Right
to Information Day this morning.

Chief Information Commissioner Martuza Ahmed presented the keynote
speech at the function, while secretary in-charge to Ministry of Information
Abual Hossain addressed the function as special guest.

“The newly passed Digital Security Act will not create any obstacle in
getting any information. RTI will stand to ensure information for people.
People will be benefited more if they apply the RTI act,” Martuza said.

A total of 32, 366 officials are designated to provide information to
people across the country under RTI act, he added.

“People are getting updated information from around 25 thousand
government websites and the Information Commission regularly monitors these.
Out of total 2, 187 complaints regarding information, commission have
disposed of 2,100 till now,” Martuza added.

Information Commissioners Nepal Chandra Sarker and Suraiya Begum
attended the briefing, among others.
