Bangabandhu Gold Cup Football begins in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI, Sept 27, 2018 (BSS)- Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman National
Gold Cup Football Tournament (U-17) began today at Liberation War Memorial
Stadium in Rajshahi.
Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton formally
inaugurated the four-day meet as the chief guest.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Khurshid Hossain, Commissioner of
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police AKM Hafiz Akter and Deputy Commissioner of
Rajshahi SM Abdul Kader, among others, were present at the inaugural
ceremony.
A total of nine teams — Rajshahi City Corporation, Natore, Naogaon, Pabna,
Bogra, Rajshahi, Joypurhat, Chapainawabganj and Sirajganj– districts are
taking part in the tournament.
Rajshahi Divisional Administration organized the meet with the initiative
of Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony Mayor Liton said the present government,
under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has been
working relentlessly for the development of country’s sports sector.
He urged all concerned to make the government’s endeavor a success.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports informed that a total of 1,25000 players
have already made their registration to play the tournament after the name of
the Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman when 5,500 teams
including upazila, Districts Sports Associations, clubs and football
academies also will participate in the tournament.
A total of 40 best players will be selected through this tournament and
they will be given special training at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothistan at
a later stage.
