3 killed in gunfights in Indian-controlled Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Sept 27, 2018 (BSS/Xinhua) – A
trooper, a militant and a civilian were killed on Thursday in two separate
gunfights in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, officials said.

The first gunfight broke out in southern Anantnag district while as second
one triggered in Srinagar city, the summer capital of Anantnag district.

Officials said a third gunfight was also underway in Budgam.

“An army trooper and a militant were killed today in a predawn gunfight in
Dooru village of Anantnag, while as a civilian was killed in another gunfight
that broke out in Noorbagh of Srinagar,” a police official said. “Meanwhile,
a third gunfight has broke out in Chadoora village of Bandipora.”

Authorities have snapped mobile Internet services in all the three
districts of the region, fearing it would mobilize people to stage anti-India
protests.

Reports said restrictions were imposed in Srinagar to prevent clashes in
the wake of the civilian killing.

Militant groups opposing New Delhi’s rule are engaged in a guerilla war
with Indian troops in the region since 1989. Gunfights between the two sides
take place intermittently.
