Strict enforcement of law stressed for stopping polythene use

DHAKA, Sept 26, 2018 (BSS) – The Parliamentary Standing Committee on
Environment, Forest and Climate Change today recommended to enforce the
existing law strictly for stopping use of polythene.

The recommendation came at a meeting of the committee at the Jatiya
Sangsad Bhaban with its chairman Md Hasan Mahmud in the chair, an official
release said.

Other members of the committee — State Minister for Environment, Forest
and Climate Change Abdullah Al Islam Jakob, Nabi Newaj, Md Ihahia Chowdhury
and Merina Rahman — attended the meeting.

At the meeting, the committee also recommended to launch mass awareness
among the people through highlighting harmful impacts of polythene. It
suggested to develop alternative materials instead of polythene bags so that
people can use those in their daily life.

The committee recommended setting up stone crushing zone at a safer place
away from Jaflong to maintain its attraction of tourism as well as
protect environment.
