665 puja mandaps to be erected in Gaibandha
GAIBANDHA, Sept 26, 2018 (BSS) – A total of 665 puja mandaps will be
erected on Durga Puja festival in the seven upazilas of the district this
year.
General secretary, district unit Puja Celebration Committee Dipok Kumar Pal
said that 125 mandaps would be erected in Sadar upazila, 149 in Sundarganj
upazila, 126 in Gobindaganj upazila, 109 in Sadullapur upazila, 68 in
Palashbari upazila, 70 in Shaghata upazila, and 18 in Fulchhari upazila of
the district.
The five day long puja would begin on October 15 and conclude on October 19
through the immersion of idols into water bodies including canal, pond and
river, he added.
The number of puja mandaps had been increased by 87 this year as 578 puja
mandaps were erected last year, he added.
Dipok Kumar Pal said a preparatory meeting for arranging Durga Puja in the
district was held at the conference room of Deputy Commissioner (DC) here on
Monday.
In the meeting, DC Gautam Chandra Pal urged the Hindu Community to
celebrate the festival with enthusiasm and religious fervor in the district
and assured them of taking necessary steps in this regard.
He urged the law enforcing agencies to maintain the law and order and
sought cooperation of all to hold the Durga Puja peacefully in the district.
Police super Engineer Abdul Mannan Miah said stern and lawful action would
be taken against the persons if anybody found to be involved in creating
anarchy and trouble during puja festival.
Police, Ansar and VDP members including gram police would be deployed at
the puja mandaps and the elite forces RAB would patrol on the roads during
puja, he added.
The leaders of district and upazila puja utjapon parishad, district level
officials, and the UNOs attended the meeting.
