Rangpur witnesses TK 331 crore uplifts in education sector

RANGPUR, Sept 25, 2018 (BSS) – Academic atmosphere and quality education
marked improving trend following massive infrastructural uplifts at a
cost of Taka 331 crore in the education sector here in last ten years.

By virtue of the infrastructural uplifts, students are getting improved
facilities and digital equipments in their educational institutions to
acquire knowledge amid congenial environment.

Talking to BSS, Executive Engineer of the Education Engineering Department
(EED) Delwar Hossain Majumder said his department implemented infrastructural
uplifts at Taka 214-crore at many secondary and higher secondary level
institutions.

“Students are getting better facilities, opportunities and congenial
academic atmosphere for higher education following construction of several
buildings of Begum Rokeya University spending Taka 78-crore in last ten
years,” he said.

Besides, the EED has constructed four-storey academic buildings of 29 non-
government colleges at Taka 65.25-crore, 64 secondary schools at Taka 40.19-
crore and 18 madrashas at Taka 11.03-crore in the district.

“We have constructed four-storey academic buildings to turn seven non-
government schools into model schools at Taka 7.20-crore and one academic
building and two hostels for female students at Carmichael College at Taka
12.30-crore,” Majumder added.

Principal of Lalkuthi Girls’ School and College Abdur Rouf Sarker said the
EED constructed a five-storey academic building with IT facilities at Taka 3-
crore substantially improving education facilities in the institution.

Intermediate level students Aklima and Roksana of the institution said
they are getting more interests to attend new classrooms having digitised
multi-media projector facilities after massive infrastructural uplifts.

Sub-divisional Engineer (SDE-1) of Public Works Division Md Moniruzzaman
Sarker said his department implemented various infrastructural development
projects at a cost of over Taka 117.68 crore in last ten years in the
district.

“The major projects include constructions of Technical Training Centres at
Gangachara and Pirgachha upazilas at Taka 59.49 crore, construction of
Rangpur Nursing Institute, vertical extension of Rangpur Nursing College and
hostels at Taka 58.19 crore,” he said.

Assistant Engineer of Rangpur Zila Parishad Masud Rana said the
organisation constructed academic buildings of seven educational institutions
spending Taka 4.53 crore in last ten years.

The institutions are- BIAM Laboratory School and College, Robertsonganj
Girls School, Jummapara Korimiya Nurul Ulum madrasha and Orphanage, Afanullah
High School, Keramotia High School, Carmichael Collegiate School and Pirganj
Begum Rokeya Mohila College.

District Education Officer Roksana Begum said the government has supplied
laptops and multimedia projectors to 638 educational institutions,
established Sheikh Rasel Digital Labs in 79 schools and digital labs in 86
schools in the district.

“Besides, six non-government secondary level schools and four non-
government colleges have been nationalised and 12,456 teachers were trained
in different categories in last ten years,” she added.

District Primary Education Officer Tauhidul Islam said 172 headmasters,
1,259 assistant teachers and 701 pre-primary teachers have been appointed in
primary schools during the period.

A total of 739 non-government primary schools have been nationalised and
16 new primary schools set up in remote areas.

“Besides, Taka 108-crore were distributed as sub-stipends among students
of 1,274 primary schools and laptops and projectors among 168 schools and
Sheikh Rasel Digital Labs were set up in two primary schools,” Islam added.

A total of 321 primary school buildings have been reconstructed and 253
others renovated and wash blocks set up at 430 primary schools all over the
district, he added.

Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib said massive infrastructural developments
have improved academic atmosphere and facilities and quality of education in
the district.
