Eight consumer shops fined Tk 20,000 in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI, Sept 25, 2018 (BSS) – Eight shops were fined Taka 20,000 here on
Monday on charges of manufacturing and selling unhygienic and sub-standard
food items.
A team of Department of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP)
conducted raids in Talanda Bazar under Tanore Upazila and at Mollapara Bazar
under Puthiya Upazila in the district.
The team found the shops named Komol Cosmetics, Puja Cosmetics, Bahari Pan
Store, Rubina Hotel, Kamal Mistanna Bhandar, Sumi Pharmacy, Priya Hotel and
Rose Hotel involved in preparing, possessing and selling consumer items in an
unhygienic condition.
Subsequently, the team fined the shop owners a total of Tk 20,000 and
realized the money instantly. In the drive, goods including 20,000 packets of
biscuits and 100 packets of cigarettes worth around Taka 37.08 lakh were
destroyed.
Apurba Adhikary, assistant director of DNCRP, said such drives against
violations of consumers’ rights will be continued in the days to come.
