CU teacher sued over ‘derogatory remarks on PM’
CHATTOGRAM, Sept 24 (BSS) – Maidul Islam, an assistant professor of
Chattogram University (CU), has been sent to jail on Monday in a case filed
over making ‘derogatory remarks’ on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Facebook.
District and Sessions Judges Mohammad Ismail Hossain sent the Sociology
teacher Maidul to jail after rejecting his bail prayer when he surrendered
before the court on expiry of his eight-week anticipatory bail granted by the
High Court, said Public Prosecutor A K M Sirajul Islam.
Earlier, Iftekhar Uddin Ayaz, a former leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League,
filed the case with Hathazari thana against him under the 57 article of
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act, on July 24.
