Stocks open week down as major sectors dip

DHAKA, Sept 23, 2018 (BSS) – Stock markets on Sunday opened the week with
downward trend as most of the major sectors closed lower while daily
transactions were also declining.

The major falling sectors were textile, IT sector and fuel and power. A
total of 201 securities of the large-cap group incurred loss due to lower
activities.

The broader index DSEX of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) finished the first
session of the week 51.81 points down at 5,415.25. The Shariah DSES and the
blue-chip DS30 followed the same trend with 5.35 points down at 1,250.16 and
with 3.78 points down at 1,897.22 respectively.

The daily turnover in value at the DSE decreased to Tk 742.39 from the
previous session of Tk 826.17 and the volume of the trading shares declined
to 15.90 crore shares from the Thursday’s 17.47 crore shares.

Among the traded 331 issues at the DSE, 252 closed lower against 59
gaining issues.

The top five gaining companies were National Tubes, Fine Foods, UPGDCL,
Republic and Style Craft.

The major losers were ETL, Intech, MLDYEING, KPCL and VFSTDL. KPCL topped
the turnover list, followed by UPGDCL, Ifad Autos, Active Fine and BBS
Cables.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week following
downward trend with its major CASPI 185.84 points down at 16,701.47.

At the CSE, 241 issues were traded. Of those, 33 closed higher and 199
closed lower.
