Govt working for Santal community’s uplift: Gowher Rizvi
DINAJPUR, Sept 22, 2018 (BSS) – Prime Minister’s International Affairs Adviser
Professor Dr. Gowher Rizvi today said the present government is working for the
development of Santal community.
“Considering the woes of the country’s ethnic groups, we will inform the Prime
Minister about two important matters. One is the issue of forming Land Commission
for the ethnic minority groups and another is the proposal of setting up an EPZ at
Kaharole Upazila, placed in parliament by Manoranjan Sheel Gopal, MP,” he said.
Rizvi was addressing a function to unveil the memorial sculpture of the
revolutionaries of the country’s first Santal rebellion and the Tebhaga movement at
the entrance road island of the historic Kantanagar Temple at Kaharole Upazila
here.
Local lawmaker Manoranjan Sheel Gopal delivered the welcome address in the
function with Memorial Sculpture Unveiling Committee Convener and Zila Parishad
Chairman Azizul Imam Chowdhury was in the chair.
To achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, all should go forward together,
Rizvi said, adding that development of the country is possible, if all are united.
He urged all to vote for ‘Boat’ in the next polls to continue the country’s
development spree.
At the begging of the programme, Professor Rizvi unveiled the sculpture ‘Sidhu-
Kanu’ built by the Dinajpur Zila Parishad.
Nazmul Haque Pradhan, MP, Ushatan Talukder, MP, Dhaka University (DU) History
Professor Dr Mesbah Kamal, Additional Secretary of the Home Affairs Ministry Nurul
Islam and National Indigenous Council President Rabindranath Saren addressed the
function as special guests.
Later, a culture function was held with participation of artistes of the ethnic
minority group and Udichi Shilpigosthi Dinajpur district Sangsad.
