Steps taken for development of prospective BLP: Shipping Minister

RANGPUR, Sept 22, 2018 (BSS) – Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, MP, has
said steps have been taken for conducting necessary infrastructural
developments at the prospective Banglabandha Land Port (BLP) in Tentulia
upazila of Panchagarh district.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed for infrastructural
developments at the BLP considering its brighter potential of expanding
international trade, commerce and communication among Bangladesh, Bhutan,
Nepal and India (BBIN) as well as China,” he said.

The Shipping Minister disclosed the information while presiding over first
meeting of the Advisory Committee of Banglabandha Land Port Development
Management Affairs Committee at conference room of the BLP on Friday
afternoon.

Earlier, the Minister inaugurated various infrastructural development
works at the BLP at a cost of Taka 10 crore to improve necessary facilities
at the potential land located on the country’s northernmost bordering point
in the sub-Himalayan district.

Narrating enormous prospect of the BLP in flourishing international trade
and commence as well as communication among the sub-Himalayan BBIN nations
and China, Shajahan said all necessary facilities would be ensured there
toward the direction.

“Necessary steps have been taken to resolve the issues related to loading
and unloading of land port workers at the BLP,” he said hoping that export-
import activities would get dynamism there soon with coordinated efforts of
all concerned.

Nazmul Haque Pradhan, MP (Panchagarh-1 constituency), Advocate Nurul Islam
Sujon, MP (Panchagarh-2 constituency), Chairman of Bangladesh Landport
Authority Tapan Kumar Chakraborty, Panchagarh Deputy Commissioner Mohammad
Zahirul Islam and Superintendent of Police Giasuddin Ahmed, among others,
were present.

In the evening, the Shajahan addressed a huge public rally organised by
district unit of Awami League (AL) at ‘Muktomacha’ in Panchagarh district
town as the chief guest with district AL President Advocate Nurul Islam
Sujon, MP, in the chair.
