Suspected militants abduct 3 policemen in Indian-controlled Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Sept. 21, 2018 (BSS/XINHUA) – Militants abducted three policemen
in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police officials said Friday.

The abductions were carried out Thursday night in Shopian district, about
52 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled
Kashmir.

“We are getting reports that last night militants have abducted three
policemen here,” a police official pleading anonymity said. “The policemen
have been abducted from their respective residences.”

The move comes days after militants released audio messages and posters
warning the policemen to quit jobs.

Last month militants abducted three policemen and eight relatives of police
personnel in retaliation to the detention of around a dozen family members of
militants.

A guerilla war is going on between militants and Indian troopers stationed
in the region since 1989.
