RAJSHAHI, Sept 21, 2018 (BSS) – Health experts at an advocacy meeting here
on Thursday underlined the need for creating mass awareness among the school-
going children to control communicable diseases like worm infection.
They called for making schoolboys and girls conscious about different
health issues and using sanitary latrine along with proper hand washing
before taking meal as the school going children are exposed to worm
infection.
Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) organised the meeting at its conference
room marking the National Worm Control week-2018.
The main objective of the meeting was to disseminate ideas among the
stakeholders and other policy-implementing staffs and workers so that they
could play a vital role in creating awareness about controlling the worm
attack.
Deputy Director of Department of Health Dr Gopendra Nath Acharya addressed
the meeting as the chief guest with RCC Secretary Rejaul Islam in the chair.
Assistant Professor Dr Naznin Parveen of Rajshahi Medical College and
Hospital, Chief Health Officer of RCC Dr Anzuman Ara begum, District
Education Officer Laila Banu, Secondary Education Officer Jahid Hassan and
Primary Education Officer Dr Sabrina Anam also spoke on the occasion.
Dr Gopendra said knowledge, attitude and practice could help prevent 80
per cent of both the communicable and non-communicable diseases along with
malnutrition.
He urged media and newsmen to play due role to contain this communicable
disease and make our society free from disease.
On the occasion, the city corporation has set a target to administer
deworming tablets to 98,397 children aged from 5-16 years of the city’s 466
schools in phases.
