SANGSAD BHABAN, Sept 20, 2018 (BSS) – The State-Owned
Manufacturing Industries Workers (Conditions of Service) Bill, 2018 was
passed in the parliament with a view to implementing the recommendations
placed by the National Wage and Productivity Commission (NWPC).

State Minister for Labour and Employment M Mujibul Haq Chunnu moved the
bill in the House today which was passed unanimously by voice votes with
Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

Placing the bill, the State Minister said, “The proposed act would help make
the new wage structure recommended by the NWPC effective.”

Prior to this, the government enacted the state-owned manufacturing industries
workers (conditions of services) act, in 2012 for the workers working in the
state-run industries. But the act is not sufficient to fulfill the wage structure
demanded by the workers, he added.

So, the government has formed the National Wage and Productivity
Commission in 2018, said the state minister, adding that the recommendations
placed by the commission was approved by the government which need to be
effective under the new act.

Earlier the bill was sent to the concerned parliamentary standing committee on
September 10 for further scrutiny.
