ACC finds benzoic acid double time higher in fruit syrup

DHAKA, Sept 19, 2018 (BSS) – The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today found the harmful benzoic acid double time higher than normal range in some fruit syrup and asked the BSTI to take immediate action against those responsible for it.

A six-member enforcement team of the ACC today conducted a drive at BSTI (Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution) to confirm whether standard of edible oil is examined correctly or not.

The team found the benzoic acid, a fungistatic compound that is widely used as a food preservative, in some fruit syrup double time higher than the normal range, harmful for human body.

ACC team asked the authorities concerned of BSTI to take necessary measures to stop the offence.

The commission also collected lab test reports of famous edible oil companies from the BSTI.

“ACC is repeatedly conducting drives at different organizations aimed at establishing the rule of law in those organizations and increasing standard of their services,” said coordinator of the enforcement team and director general (admin) of the ACC Muhammad Munir Chowdhury.
