German, N Korean envoys present credentials to President
DHAKA, Sept 19, 2018 (BSS) – Ambassadors of Germany and North Korea to Bangladesh separately presented their credentials to President M Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban here this afternoon.
The resident envoys are: Peter Fahrenholtz of Federal Republic of Germany and Pak Song Yop of Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea).
Welcoming the ambassadors, President Hamid hoped that the bilateral relations with the countries will further be expanded during their respective assignments here, President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin told BSS.
He told the German ambassador that the bilateral relations in the field of trade and investment are excellent.
“There are lots of possibilities to enhance the existing good relations between the two countries. Germany has also many scopes to invest here,” he mentioned.
Abdul Hamid described Bangladesh a country of huge potentials and stressed the need for availing all possibilities to boost businesses and trade ties for the benefit of their respective countries and Bangladesh.
He said the two countries, as development partners, should enhance the mutual visit-exchange.
Praising the socio-economic development of Bangladesh, specially the present GDP rate, the German ambassador said the 7.86 percent GDP is really a big achievement of the Bangladesh government.
Peter lauded the government’s initiatives for rehabilitating Rohingyas who had fled to Bangladesh territory from their Rakhine state homeland of Myanmar.
The ambassador hoped that the international quarter would continue its effort to resolve the Rohingya crisis.
During the meeting with the North Korea ambassador, the President praised their initiatives to enhance the ties between North Korea and South Korea.
Terming this a new chapter of relations between the two states, he hoped that two countries would get benefit from it.
He also hoped that the relations between Bangladesh and North Korea would be stronger in the coming days.
The ambassador sought the President’s cooperation in discharging his duties here.
The President assured the ambassadors of providing necessary cooperation during their assignments in Bangladesh.
Secretaries concerned to the Bangabhaban were also present in the meeting.
Earlier, on their arrival at Bangabhaban, a smartly turned-out contingent of the horse-mounted President Guard Regiment (PGR) gave the envoys guards of honour.
