Journalist Raisul Huq Bahar laid to rest in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Sept 19, 2018 (BSS)- Freedom Fighter (FF) and veteran journalist Raisul Huq Bahar was laid to eternal rest at the graveyard of Chattogram Port Authority here this afternoon.

Bahar died of cardiac arrest at 11 pm Tuesday night at a hospital in the port city.

He left behind his wife, a daughter, a son and a host of relatives, well-wishers and colleagues to mourn his death.

Senior journalist Bahar worked for different newspapers in Chattogram.

He was the bureau chief of The Daily Star, Chattogram and also served as the assistant editor to Daily Suprabhat Bangladesh. Born in April 1952, Bahar had joined Chattogram Port Authority in 1969. Chattogram Press Club president Kalim Sarwar and its general secretary Shuklal Das, president of Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ) Nazim Uddin Shyamol and its general secretary Hasan Ferdous expressed deep shock at the demise of the senior journalist.

Bahar was a guerilla commander and led many operations during the Liberation War.

The body of Bahar was taken to Chattogram Shaheed Minar at 11 am today for paying last respect to him by all walks of life.

Different socio-cultural, political organizations, freedom fighters and journalists paid their last respect by placing floral wreaths on his coffin.

Those oragizations and individuals included District Muktijoddha Sangsad Commander Mohammad Shahabuddin, City Commander Mozaffar Ahmed, the daily Azadi Editor MA Malek, senior journalist and columnist Abul Momen, researcher Dr Mahfuzur Rahman, BFUJ- Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalist former vice president Shahid Ul Alam, Chattogram Press Club President Kalim Sarwar and general secretary Shuklal Das, Chattogram City Corporation Panel Mayor Chowdhury Hasan Mahmud Hasni, additional deputy commissioner Md Habibur Rahman, Awami League leader Ibrahim Hossain Babul and Chattogram Union of Journalist joint secretary Sabur Shuva.

Besides, AL city unit, district and city units of Muktijodhha Sangsad, Chattogram Press Club, Chattogram Union of Journalist, Chattogram Photo Journalist Association, Bangladesh Muktijoddha Gobeshona Trust, Chattogram Zila Shilpakala Academy, CPB, BSD, JSD and different organizations also placed wreaths.

Later, the body was taken to Chattogram Port Bhaban. A gourd of honour was given to Bahar there.
