Typhoon Mangkhut leaves girl dead, 7 missing in northern Thailand

BANGKOK, Sept. 19, 2018 (BSS/Xinhua) – The governor of Thailand’s northern
Mae Hong Son province has confirmed that a two-year-old girl was killed by a
mudslide triggered by typhoon Mangkhut.

The report submitted by Governor Sirirat Chumuppakan to the Interior
Ministry on Tuesday also said seven people were still unaccounted for,
including a three-year-old boy.

The mudslide also injured 11 people, completely destroyed seven houses and
damaged six others in a refugee camp on the northern tip of province’s Sop
Moei district.

According to figures released by the Border Consortium, a non-govermental
organization helping Myanmar refugees along the Thai border, the camp
shelters about 9,000 displaced people from Myanmar, mostly ethnic Karen.

Super typhoon Mangkhut lashed the Philippines and southern China with with
torrential rains and gusty winds last week.
