DHAKA, Sept 18, 2018 (BSS)- Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon today underscored the need for bringing the persons with disabilities and the ethnic groups in the mainstream of society to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“Development of a society is not possible without them… We need to bring the persons with disabilities and the ethnic groups in the mainstream of society for attaining the SDGs,” he said, speaking at a seminar at the SWID Bangladesh auditorium in city’s Eskaton.

Women with Disabilities Development Foundation (WDDF) organized the seminar on the rights of disabled women with its president Shirin Akther in the chair.

National Disabled Development Foundation Managing Director Mahmuda Min Ara, Transparency International (TIB) Chairman Sultana Kamal, Manusher Jonnyo Foundation Executive Director Shahin Anam, Nijerai Kori Executive Director Khushi Kabir and development activist Julian Fransis, among others, also addressed the seminar.

Menon said the overall development of Bangladesh would not be possible by leaving behind around 16 lakh persons with disabilities.

The minister informed the seminar that one chain shopping mall in the country employed 30 persons with disabilities in their shops. Later, the number will be increased to 300, he added.
