Pacquiao to decide fight with Mayweather this weekend
MANILA, Sept 17, 2018 (BSS/Xinhua) – Philippine boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao said on Monday that his fight with Floyd Mayweather is set to be decided this week.
Pacquiao said it was Mayweather who pitched the fight when the two met at a concert in Tokyo, Japan, on last Saturday.
On Instagram and Twitter, Mayweather said that he will be coming out of retirement to face the Philippine boxer in what is expected as another blockbuster fight.
“I’m coming back to fight Manny Pacquiao this year. Another nine-figure payday on the way,” the undefeated U.S. boxer wrote.
Mayweather, the 41-year-old former professional boxer, held multiple world titles in five weight classes and the lineal championship in four weight classes during his career from 1996 to 2017.
“Mayweather told me: Easy fight, easy fight.’ I told him: Let’s get it on and get back to the ring. I have the belt,” said Pacquiao.
The 39-year-old Philippine icon said he and his crew have yet to discuss the conditions, details and schedule of the fight.
“This week we will finalize the fight with Mayweather or with somebody else,” Pacquiao added.
In May 2015, the two boxing giants first fought in Las Vegas in what was posted as “The Fight of the Century”, which Mayweather won via unanimous decision.
Still, it was one of the richest matches in professional boxing history with Mayweather raking in roughly 200 million U.S. dollars and Pacquiao earning roughly 133 million U.S. dollars.
