DHAKA, Sept 15, 2018 (BSS) – Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon today said despite their repeated pronouncement of standing against the anti-liberation forces, the proponents of “National Unity” platform are out to forge unity with BNP.

Forging unity with BNP means forming unity with the anti-liberation forces as BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami are two sides of a coin, he said.

“BNP and Jama’at are two sides of a coin . . . And forging greater unity with BNP is almost same to do it with the anti-Liberation force Jamaat,” he said while exchanging views with eminent personalities, teachers and managing committee members of different colleges, schools and madrasas in Malibag and Shajahahanpur areas here.

Menon, also president of the Workers Party of Bangladesh, the initiators of ‘National Unity’ are virtually accepting Jamaat as forging unity with Jamaat tantamount to endorsing Jamaat.

He strongly criticized the role of Gono Forum chief Dr Kamal Hossain and others for their initiatives to constitute the national unity ahead of the 11th Jatiya Sangsad polls.

Referring to recent quota and road safety movements, Menon said BNP failed to launch any movement several times and they also failed to involve in the students’ quota and road safety movements as well.

“Being failed, BNP is at last trying to launch a movement riding on the shoulder of the national unity platform led by of Dr Kamal,” he mentioned.

Outlining different development activities of the Awami League government in last 10 years, the minister said Bangladesh attained tremendous progress in various sectors, including agriculture, communication and power. “Country achieved self-sufficiency in food production,” he added.

President of 12 No Ward Awami League Enayet Kabir chaired the meeting. Dhaka South City AL vice-president Awlad Hossain, Shajahanpur Thana AL president Abdul Latif and general secretary Abdul Mukit Hawlader and principals and headmasters of all colleges and schools of Shahjahanpur and Malibag areas, among others, were present.
