President, PM call for protecting ozonosphere for future

DHAKA, Sept 15, 2018 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today urged all concerned to create awareness for protecting the ozone layer to save environment.

In separate messages on the eve of the World Ozone Day 2018, the President and the Prime Minister welcomed the initiative of observing the day in Bangladesh as elsewhere in the world.

They described this year’s theme of the day “Keep cool and carry on, The Montreal Protocol” as appropriate.

In his message, the President urged all to make tireless efforts to make the world livable for the future generation by saving the environment.

The President said awareness will increase among the people about the damages of ozone layer and harmful effects of climate changes through observing the day.

In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina hoped that the Montreal Protocol will play a vital role to protect environment and awareness would be created in the country through the observance of the Ozone Day.

She said the Montreal Protocol is playing a remarkable role in the protection of the ozone layer as well as it is making a valuable contribution to the issue of climate change.

She said the world community is working together to protect the ozone layer from 1987 and the Montreal Protocol is an epoch-making step.

As a result, Sheikh Hasina said, the ozone layer is coming back to its previous stage and Bangladesh is a proud partner of the activities.

The United Nations Environment Programme gave a complimentary certificate to Bangladesh in 2017 for implementing the Montreal Protocol successfully, she added.

The President and the Prime Minister wished success of all programs of the World Ozone Day.
