DHAKA, Sept 15, 2018 (BSS) – Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid today
laid emphasis on expansion of technical education to develop skilled human
resources in the country.

“Effective plans should be taken to promote technical education to
achieve the targets of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030,” he told
a seminar on “Thoughts of Bangabandhu on education: trend of Implementation”
at the Jatiya Press Club here, an official release said.

Sub-committee of Bangladesh Awami League on education and human resource
organized the seminar.

Vice Chancellor of Jagannath University Dr Mizanur Rahman, Pro-Vice
Chancellor (Education) of Dhaka University (DU) Dr Nasrin Ahmed and Pro-Vice
Chancellor (administration) Dr Muhammad Samad, among others, addressed the
seminar with AL Sub-committee on education and human resource Prof Dr Abdul
Khaleq in the chair.

Nahid said, “We have attached top priority to expansion of technical and
vocational education to ensure better access of students to job markets,”

Nahid said the government has set a target of 20 percent enrolment in
technical education by 2020 aiming to transform Bangladesh into an
economically developed country.

“In 2009, there was only one percent student enrolment in the technical
education while the current enrolment is 14 percent,” he added.

“We are promoting knowledge-based education to develop skilled human
resources to turn Bangladesh into a middle-income country. Education without
skills will create a burden for family as well as the nation,” he said.

“To maximize the benefit of using ICT in a classroom, we need a bunch of
trained, motivated and technology-friendly teachers who will make the whole
process effective and successful,” the minister added.

“The government has taken various ICT programmes to ensure quality of
education. In a technology-based globalised world, quality education is
crucial for any country. The government has realised the fact and executed
its plans accordingly,” Nahid added.
