4.6-magnitude jolts Indian-controlled Kashmir

NEW DELHI, Sept. 12, 2018 (BSS/XINHUA) – Feeble earthquake shocks shook
Indian-controlled Kashmir and its adjoining areas, officials said Wednesday.

According to Indian Meteorological Department, the earthquake measuring 4.6
on the Richter scale occurred late Tuesday night.

“The epicentre of earthquake was in Jammu and Kashmir region located at
35.6 degrees north latitude and 76.3 degrees east longitude,” the information
released by Indian Meteorological Department said. “The earthquake struck at
11:45 p.m. (local time) on Tuesday and its depth was 174 km.”

According to officials no reports of damage were received from any part of
Indian-controlled Kashmir.

Geologists say Indian-controlled Kashmir is located in a zone of high
seismic activity.

Srinagar, the capital city of Indian-controlled Kashmir falls in Seismic
Zone-V and other parts of Indian-controlled Kashmir in Seismic Zone IV.
