GMP starts journey on Sept 16
GAZIPUR, Sept 11, 2018 (BSS) – The newly formed Gazipur Metropolitan
Police (GMP) is set to start journey along with 1,152 staff from September
16.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the formal
activities of the GMP through video conference from Ganabhaban around 9am on
September 16,” the first GMP Commissioner WM Belalur Rahman told a view-
exchange meeting with journalists at his office’s conference room here.
“The logo of the GMP has already been approved,” he said, adding that it
will start working formally along with 1,152 officers and employees after
inauguration of its journey by the premier.
Replying to a query, he said, “We will follow the ‘zero tolerance policy’
against the militancy and illegal drugs as per the directive by the
government.”
“None including police personnel will be spared if they are found involved
in criminal activities such as drug trading,” he also said.
The GMP chief vowed to stop public harassment by police personnel saying,
“We are committed to stop any sorts of harassment by policemen.”
Among others, Gazipur Press Club President Khairul Islam and General
Secretary Rahim Sarker spoke on the occasion.
