China treasury bond futures open lower Monday

BEIJING, Sept. 10, 2018 (BSS/Xinhua) – China’s five-year treasury bond
futures opened lower on Monday, with the contract for settlement in September
2018 having no trading at opening.

The contract for settlement in December 2018 opened 0.05 percent lower at
97.57 yuan (about 14.26 U.S. dollars). The contract for settlement in March
2019 opened at 97.21 yuan, 0.53 percent lower from the previous close.

The contracts are agreements to buy or sell treasury bonds at a
predetermined price on a set date. They allow investors to bet on and profit
from the movements in the value of the bonds.

The treasury bond futures were launched at the Shanghai-based China
Financial Futures Exchange and started trading on Sept. 6, 2013.
