Optical fiber network in all UPs by this year: Jabbar

DHAKA, Sept 9, 2018 (BSS) – Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar today said Bangladesh is now one of those countries which are leading the digital industrial revolution.

“Country’s all Union Parishads (UPs) would be connected with optical fiber network by the end of this year,” said the minister as an eight-member delegation of Estonia led by its foreign minister Sven Mikser met him at his secretariat office.

He said Bangladesh has joined the satellite owners’ club as the 57th nation and also conducted successful trial of the 5th generation mobile phone services.

Besides, Bangladesh has attained remarkable success in producing and exporting digital devices, added the minister.

Highlighting the investment opportunities being offered by the government, Jabbar said investment by the foreign entrepreneurs in Bangladesh is profitable due to the policy support from the government.

Describing the development of Estonia in the field of information and communication technology, Sven Mikser told the Bangladesh minister that his country is working for the development of cyber security and digital infrastructures.

He lauded the progress of Bangladesh in the journey of digitization, and said Bangladesh’s experience in this field would encourage others.

Members of the delegation and officials concerned of the ministry were present.
