Healthcare facilities significantly improved in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Sept 09, 2018 (BSS) – The healthcare services have been
significantly improved in the district after implementation of many
infrastructural development projects in the last 10 years.

Officials of Health Engineering Department (HED) and Public Works
Division (PWD) said a number of development projects were implemented at a
cost of Taka 97 crore in the health sector here during the period while some
other projects are being implemented.

Civil Surgeon of Rangpur Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam said common people are
getting better healthcare services from the government hospitals and other
healthcare centres in the district following improvement of the
infrastructural projects.

“The service providing environment has also been improved in hospitals,
upazila health complexes, union health and family welfare centres and
community clinics, which help common people get better services,” he said.

Executive Engineer of the Health Engineering Department (HED) Md Saiful
Islam said his department implemented 44 infrastructural projects at cost of
Tk 58.40 crore in last 10 years improving healthcare facilities across the
district.

In addition, he said, more infrastructural uplift projects are being
implemented to further improve healthcare services at different places.

The major infrastructural development projects, which were implemented,
were constructions of an Institute of Health Technology in the city,
upgradation of five 31-bed upazila health complexes to 50-bed, an EPI store
and 27 community clinics.

“The HED has completed construction works to upgrade the capacity of
five 31-bed upazila health complexes at Gangachara, Pirganj, Badarganj,
Kawnia and Pirgachha upazila towns to 50-bed during the period,” he said.

Besides, buildings of five union health and family welfare centres have
been constructed at Nohali union in Gangachara upazila, Tambulpur and Kandi
unions in Pirgachha upazila, Hariarkuthi union in Taraganj upazila and
Ramnathpur union in Pirganj upazila.

“Two buildings of Khalashpeer 10-bed maternity and child welfare centre
and Madarganj 10-bed maternity and child welfare centre in Pirganj upazila
were constructed during the period,” Saiful said.

The construction works of office-cum-store building of Kawnia upazila
family planning officer in Kawnia upazila town and an EPI store room in Sadar
upazila have also been completed.

The new buildings of 27 community clinics have been constructed in all
eight upazilas increasing the number of service-providing community clinics
to 309 in the district.

“The HED also constructed vertical extension works of the female hostel
of the Institute of Health Technology,” Saiful added.

Talking to BSS, Sub-divisional Engineer (SDE-1) of PWD Moniruzzaman
Sarker said PWD completed a number of infrastructural development projects
involving Tk 35 crore at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) in the last
10 years.

“The completed major projects include constructions of Intensive Care
Unit (ICU) and Causality Unit at RMCH, vertical extension of its A, C and D
Blocks and other buildings at Tk 31.86 crore,” he said.

Construction of the Hostel for Nursing College has also been completed
at Tk 6.52 crore, Sarker said, adding that implementation of some other
development works at RMCH is progressing fast.

RMCH director Dr Ajay Kumar Roy said the infrastructural developments in
past 10 years help improve healthcare services at RMCH and other health
service providing facilities in the district.
