Flash floods kill 1, injure 3 in West Sumatra, Indonesia

JAKARTA, Sept. 7, 2018 (BSS/XINHUA) – Flash floods striking West Sumatra
province on Thursday night killed one person and severely wounded three
others, an official of disaster agency said on Friday.

Heavy downpours triggered floods that suddenly hit several villages in
Solok district at 8:45 p.m. local time, spokesman of national disaster
management agency Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said.

The floods affected over 3,000 folks in the districts and swept away tons
of paddy stockpiles, he told Xinhua in a text message.

Soldiers, police personnel and volunteers are undertaking relief works and
assessment of downside risks of the natural disaster, Sutopo added.

Indonesia is frequently hit by floods and landslides during heavy
downpours.
