BSTI fines Tk 5.41 lakh in Rajshahi, Rangpur

RAJSHAHI, Sept 7, 2018 (BSS)- Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution
(BSTI) penalised 23 shops over Taka 5.41 lakh in Rajshahi and Rangpur
divisions in August this year for selling and manufacturing adulterated food
items.

Seventeen mobile courts of the BSTI Rajshahi regional office in
association with local administration conducted drives in different parts of
the two divisions and found the shops selling substandard food items,
violating the set rules and regulations.

The courts also realised Taka 5.41 lakh from the shop owners during the
drives conducted in eight districts under the divisions.

BSTI Director (Rajshahi) Engineer Selim Reza said the regional office
conducted the drives against the shops involved in manufacturing substandard
and adulterated food items. Such drives will continue in future, he said.

The BSTI regional office also conducted 16 surveillance drives for
prevention of pilferage in weight and measurement and formalin use in fruit
and fish.
